Now then..

I’m back once again with this ill behaviour… And a new Spotify playlist. Highlights this time around come from Mice Parade and their epic track Mokoondi. Mice Parade have established themselves as one of the most consistently brilliant bands over the last decade or so with half a dozen phenomenal releases, they’re due to tour the UK in October time, you’d be a fool to miss out on that one. There’s some Coldplay in there as well from when they were good and Tracy by arguably the greatest post-rock band of all time Mogwai is also included.

Barrels news… It’s up for sale, hopefully this wont affect our position as the live music promoters but if it does, we’ll certainly be going out on a high. Award winning traditional folk musician Emily Portman will be performing on June 11th alongside her all-star band of Lucy Farrell (The Unthanks) and Rachel Newton (The Shee), tickets are flying off the shelves for that one so if you fancy getting down for it you’d better make a move quickly.

We’ve taken on board another super-smashing-great band to manage. The Mockingbirds are a seven piece string-laden, ukulele yeilding, vocal harmony beast of a band, they’ve just finished recording their debut single at Blank Studios in Newcastle and we’re now looking get them a busy Summer of gigs, here’s the lead track from said single Wendy’s Melody.

Sona Di have been asked to perform at the launch night of KYEO.tv – a new interactive, video-based music & arts website launching in newcastle in april, founded by three north east-based journalists. The gig will take place at the Cumberland Arms on Tuesday April 6th and will be streamed in hd live so tune in to their website from 8 bells to see what the fuss is about.

I’ll leave you there, no one likes a chatterbox.

We’re just monkeys with guns and money

Hello!

Alan has made the mistake of giving me (Angus) access to this website so prepare yourself for weekly onslaughts of nonsense patter from myself. In the midst of my ramblings however will be vital information on the goings on at Travelled Music hq, so keep your eyes peeled, its in there somewhere.

After three months of unemployment I’m finally starting to enjoy myself, the sun is out, my cats are finally litter trained and I’ve discovered an abundance of amazing bands on Spotify after what can only be described as a loss of faith in music in the earlier this year. Being the kind-hearted chap that I am I’ve decided to share these pleasures with you – Travelled Music Playlist #1

It’s a damn shame when it takes someone dying for you to hear their music for the first time, the tragic loss of Mark Linkous following his suicide early last week led to me discovering Sparklehorse and Apple Bed from the It’s a Wonderlife Life album can be found on the playlist, an inspiring and beautiful piece of music to say the least. Look out for Torn Up In Praise by Spokes in that one as well, those chaps signed to Ninja Tune offshoot Counter Records last year and their recently completed album is sounding amazing, due for release later this year.

Exciting times on the promoting front at TM, the standard of talent has been cranked up in recent months and we’re constantly booking more and more excellent acts at the Barrels Alehouse. Highlights in the next few months include Leeds based ambient shoegaze duo Glissando, Italian electronic wizardsTempelhof & folk-drenched pastoral psychedelia from Tim and Sam’s Tim and the Sam Band with Tim & Sam. Look out for the free download on the Tim and Sam etc.. website, it’s a bloody good’n. For full listings visit our Myspace.

We’ve got a couple of releases to look forward to as well in the not too distant future. Espionage of the Loc release the As The Sun Rises single on April 1st, have a glimpse at the hysterical video which locals mistook for a genuine murder subsequently leading to a police investigation with helicopters and all, I shit you not. VIDEO!

And Sona Di have finally got their arses into gear and have produced an intense and hypnotic debut ep entitled ‘We’re Just Monkeys with Guns and Money’. Get a hold of the lead track from the ep Tiptoe Beat for zero pence right here folks – Tip Toe Beat. The lauch for that one is at the Barrels Alehouse on May 1st.

That’s it I’ve run out of patter.

See ya
