After being awarded a grant by ‘The Princes Trust’, a foundation intended to help the young and aspirational to fully realise existing business ideas by way of monetary support and mentoring. Thompson announced Travelled Music to the world with record label releases and soon turned its attentions towards the bustling live circuit hosted by the Scottish capital. Promoting regular and successful shows in prestigious venues across the city. Travelled was appointed to take charge of Mercury Prize nominated Scot-folk outfit ‘Hobotalk’ and their album launch of acclaimed 2005 release ‘Notes on Sunset’.
Further concerts and event management led to Alan’s delegation as Manager of up and coming Edinburgh based electronica group ‘Roy’s Iron DNA’. During their short time with Alan at the reigns, RIDNA released one acclaimed album (2007’s ‘Men In Wax Jackets’) through Alex Tronic Records, as well as embarking on nationwide tours with the likes of the Go Team and Lo Fidelity Allstars.
This touring success brought the world of tour management to Travelled Music and Alan began working as crew/driver for various bands before stepping up to tour manage Warp Records’ Born Ruffians and going on to work with Junior Boys and many other with a favourable niche in the Canadian music market. We love Canada! After travelling the world on tour Alan began to expand Travelled Music at home with the development of a music festival in hometown Berwick upon Tweed with long-term cohort Hamish Bell alongside the Events Management and Tour bookings with Angus Mason and online and merchandise solutions with Steven Walker. The business continues to develop and grow with a Toronto office opening in 2014 and PR agency Generate Music coming on board as in-house promotions team.
